Old Court House Museum

The building was erected as a courthouse in 1866. Among its collections this museum has photos, artifacts and documents. It is a national monument.

This museum is situated on the corner of Aliwal Street and Smith Street, Durban.

Old House Museum

Replica of the original George Robinson home built in 1850. It belonged to George Robinson (early editor of the Mercury) and then to his son Sir John Robinson,First Prime Minister of Natal during the 1890's. It was reconstructed by the city council after World War Two. Opening Times: Mon-Sat: 8:30am to 4:00pm, Sun & Public Holidays: 11:00am to 4:00pm

The Phansi Museum private collection of Southern African tribal artifacts is beautifully displayed in the basement rooms of Robert's house-a Victorian historical monument. To get there from the CBD - follow Sydney Road out of town for 1,9km. Turn right into Franks Road (directly after Timber City) go over Umbilo Road to Frere Road (0.6km) turn left and go up the hill (0.4km). At the top of the corner of Cedar Road is the rambling double storey-Roberts house.

Pinetown Museum

This is a multi cultural local history museum representing all cultures and covering 100 000 years of human development. Attractions include cultural artefacts, a model of a Zulu warrior and a collection of historical photographs. Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm Mon- Fri, 9:00am - 12:00pm Sat.

Private Garden And Bead Museum

Merriwinkle estate in Kloof is the home of Peter Amm, architect, landscaper and collector. It has one of the most beautiful private gardens in Durban. Amm has converted a building on the property into a private bead museum with a superb collection of African beadwork and traditional artifacts. He is in the process of developing a private sculptured garden featuring the work of South African artists. Across the road is the gorge garden grove nursery. Warriors' Gate Moth Museum

A rich collection of militaria is on view in this museum. South African involvement in the two world wars is the focus of the collection. Open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 11am - 3pm. Saturday 10am-12noon. Closed Mondays and public holidays.
