Street. It is the largest mosque in the Southern
Hemisphere, with a
floor area of 975 square metres and the capacity to take an
assembly
of 4500 worshippers.
Overport MosqueA significant suburban mosque of the union period. Single
storied hall with two
freestanding minarets and three major minarets. Queens Bridge MosqueA union period mosque incorporating a single story building
in the Edwardian style. Riverside Soofie Mosque and MausoleumThis beautifully designed mosque and mausoleum, on the
north
bank of the Umgeni River,
is a national monument. Soofie Mosque ( Soofie Saheb Badsha Peer Darbar )This mosque stands on the south bank of the Umgeni River,
about three kilometres from
its mouth. Soofie Saheb Badsha Peer DarbarPicturesquely situated on the banks of the Umgeni River
north
of the city centre, this
beautiful building is a national monument. West Street MosqueThis mosque is a striking example of an Edwardian
interpretation of Islamic architecture.
It is said to be set slightly off-course with the line of
West Street, so that the faithful
can face Mecca directly in prayer. Zanazibarian MosqueOriginates from Tanzania. Visitors are welcome. | |||||
