Mission Station

Adams Mission

Doctor Newton Adams established a mission here in 1835, under the authority of the American board of commissioners for foreign missions. In 1853 a school was opened on the site, which over the years developed into the Adams College. From 1934 to 1935 it was under the principal ship of Dr Edgar Brookes.

Christianenburg Mission Station

Rev C.W. Posselt founded the mission station and attended to the welfare of the German settlers in New Germany who had been brought out by Jonas Bergtheil in 1848. The land now forms part of Clermont Township.

The station was established by American missionary Daniel Lindley (1801-1880).

Mariannhill Monastery

The monastery was founded as a trappist monastery by father Francis Pfanner in 1882. It became a renowned missionary institute with schools, hospital, art centre, retreat, church and gardens.
